Born in Hackettstown, Polachek graduated from West Morris Central High School and the County College of Morris, his obituary says.

Polachek worked as a Registered Nurse at the House of Good Shepard and was a former member of both the Mansfield and Long Valley Emergency Squads — including the group that responded to the 9/11 disaster in New York City, according to his memorial.

Polachek was remembered for his love of the outdoors, including camping and rafting, as well as spending time with friends.

Polachek leaves behind his loving mother, Monika Polachek; his older brother, Jeffrey Polachek; as well as several extended family members and dear friends.

Polachek’s memorial was held Dec. 18 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church on East Springtown Road in Long Valley.

"Justin was a gentle and kind man with several passions for helping people become more aware and educated on many topics including nursing, government, space and virtual reality, which he loved," reads a tribute on Polachek's memorial.

"He had an infectious laugh and a wonderful sense of humor and he will be missed."
